Live from the jungles of Mexico, the adventures of Bill

Update: August 22, 2004

I still love living here. Playa del Carmen has about the right level of activity and conveniences for me, the jungle has the natural serenity I need for peace of mind, and there are still some uncrowded stretches of caribbean beach to enjoy. Although this is the hot humid season, I have adjusted well to the weather, but am very much looking forward to having ceiling fans in my new house soon!

My house construction is making good progress, considering the universal nature of contractors. I think I really will be able to move in soon, two weeks or so (as I have been saying for months now). I think a housewarming (or cooling?) party will be in order. This house is located on a lot owned by my friend Ted. The house will be mine for two years while I get my own place in order, but Ted is buying it from me and will put it to good use after I move out. The solar energy system was installed last week, and the house wiring is going in this week. This will be the demonstration model for my new business of selling alternative energy systems, which also should be ready and legal very soon. For images of progress (now mostly of the cenote in my front yard), check here occasionally: http://leftblank.com/mx/guadalupe/

My health concerns are ok at this point. Although I have not gained back much of the weight I lost in June, my energy and appetite are good. Today I am waiting for test results to see if the amoebas are gone, or if I am just feeding them well.

I have had a few friendly conversations with Jim Ann recently. She appears to think I am actually less evil than she previously thought. We are much closer to settling our financial affairs at this point. The plan is for her to keep the original lot after some downsizing, and for me to keep two regular lots in Pueblo SacBe: http://www.pueblosacbe.com/

The other land I have now is a little more remote and rustic. I was a principal launcher of this project, so I have 17.5 acres for a very good price. We are working to improve road access and tourism for the small Mayan village near our property. The area is covered with mostly old tall trees and has very good vibes.
